Confederate Rose
We are quilting along with Barbara
Brackman's Civil War Quilt 2011.
This is how I decided to make mine.
Fabric Requirements:
Fabric A - Blue
2 - 2 7/8" squares
Fabric B - Pink
4 - 6 7/8" x 1 7/8" strips
Fabric C - Green
1 - 6 3/8" square
Fabric D - Floral
1 - 3" fussy cut square backed
with fusible adhesive
Cut Fabric A squares on the diagonal.
Cut 45 degree angles on each
edge of Fabric B strips.
Sew Fabric A and Fabric B units
together and trim edges.
Ooops! I now realize I placed the applique
square incorrectly. Refer to Barbara's site
for the correct placement. Otherwise the
directions are the same. Sorry, but I taught a
full day class today and my brain was fried...
Update: See below for the corrected block.
Adher the fussy cut 3" square to the
Fabric C square and applique by hand
or machine.
Sew triangles units to opposite edges
of Fabric C square, press seams
to the outside.
Sew remaiming triangle units to
remaining edges of Fabric C and
press seams to the outside.
Square to 8 1/2".

This is the correct way to place the
fussy cut applique piece.
I did mine earlier ... but I think I may re-do it more along the lines of the way you did yours --LexingtonQuilter

Thank you so much for making this block less complicated. I appreciate you sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. I don't know how you accomplish what you do and travel too. I had a week upstate NY and 10 days in the Tetons and am totally trying to catch up!!!! Your hints helped me tackle this block. Although mine is a variation on the theme too.Three more to go and I will be caught up. Enjoy NY. (I live in Bklyn.)
