Chock-A-Block Wednesday

Underground Railroad


This is a block that can create
many different quilts by how you
place the blocks together in a quilt.

Fabric Requirements:

Fabric A: Dark (Red)
1 - 5 1/4" square - Mark
a diagonal line on back

Fabric B: Medium (Green)
1 - 5 1/4" square
4 - 2 1/2" squares

Fabric C: Light (White print)
4 - 2 1/2" squares


Make Half Square Triangles:
Place 5 1/4" squares right sides
together and sew 1/4" away
from both sides of the
drawn line.


Cut on drawn line
and press to the dark.


Square to 4 1/2".


Make the 4 Patch:
Layout squares as shown
and sew together in 2 rows.
Press row one to the left
and row 2 to the right.
Then sew rows together.
Press seam open to reduce bulk.


Square to 4 1/2".


Assemble Block:
Layout units as shown and
sew together in 2 rows.
Press row 1 to the left  and
row 2 to the right.

Sew rows together and
press seam open to reduce bulk.


Square to 8 1/2".

different places in the block
 we can make one like this.


By alternating fabric
placements in the blocks
we can make one like this.


By rotating the blocks we
can make one like this.
