Solitude

I was chatting with an old friend the other
day and he asked if my work was part of a
larger company or was it my own studio work.
I told him it was just me, I am American Homestead.
And sometimes, that can be lonely.

He kindly offered to chat on the phone with me
to relieve the loneliness.  He said if I had a cordless
phone with a headset we could chat and I could
still be working.  I laughed and said I'm not that
high tech, not only do I not have a headset ~ in my
studio I don't even have a phone!

Now this is on purpose, so I actually get work
done but truthfully it can get quite lonely.
I do bring my laptop into the studio and often
keep the facebook page open all day, then I can
check in every once in a while and see what is
going on with my friends.

Maybe for those of us who work alone, we need
to have lunch dates online or a virtual coffee break...
Does anyone else have this problem and what to
you do about it?

  1. I prefer to work in silence and use FB and Blogger for "company" during sewing breaks. I do work outside the home for pay during the week so I cherish the peace and quiet on the weekends. Once I retire, it might be a different story tho... we'll see...
