Just Takes 2 Mystery Quilt ~ Block 10

I Did It!

I had a very restless night last
night, I was anticipating the new
instructions that would be posted
today for the mystery quilt.  I couldn't
wait to get started.  When I finally
saw the new blocks, my heart sank...
Paper Piecing.
I don't know how to do paper piecing.

Back in 2008 when I really started
taking quilting seriously ~ meaning
actually finishing the projects I started,
I won a 2nd place ribbon in a fairly
large quilt show in Ft. Wayne, IN.
(The ribbon shown above is from
another quilt show, but it was the
only photo I had.)  As I was being
photographed in front of my quilt, a
viewer passed by and asked if I had
used foundation piecing.  I replied with
a very noncommittal, "ahhhhmmmm".
A few days later I asked a quilting friend,
"What IS foundation piecing?"  Paper  Piecing,
she replied.  Oooohhhhhh.
No, the quilt was not paper pieced.
And now 3 1/2 years later, I still had not
ever done paper piecing.  I quickly got into
designing my own quilts and since I didn't do
paper piecing, I never used it in my designs.
Until today, I learned off the internet.
I confess, I didn't love it but I'm not ashamed
of the outcome.  I probably should take a class
from someone who really knows what they are
doing and maybe I'll love it.  But for now, I'm
happy to have gotten through today's block.
More to come later in the week...

  1. Hello, Ellen, I signed in but till now there was no time for sewing: our little grandson is still here, Friday they will return to SF....
And a question: do one get a mail or so when a new pattern comes out??? Or must I have a look whether something new is on the air??
    Greetings from Regina
