Beware!

The Ides of March

We hear it in the middle of every March

but why?

Ides comes from the Latin Idus, meaning half

division.  Many months had a celebration midway

through.  March 15th was a festive day dedicated

to the god Mars.  Usually a military parade was held.

The Ides of March is largely remembered

because it was the day Julius Caesar was

killed in 44BC.  In Shakespeare's play Julius

Caesar, Caesar is warned by the soothsayer

to "beware the ides of March."
