Honoring Women's Rights ~ Week 7

Alice's Star

We are quilting along with Barbara
Brackman's Block of the Week,
Grandmother's Choice.

Fabric Requirements:

8 1/2" x 3 3/16" strips in either
2 or 3 different fabrics.

Scrap fabric for star

Sew the 3 strips together as shown.
Press seams to the darker fabric.
Square to 8 1/2".

For my block, I printed out the template
from the pdf and then enlarged it 112%.

I then fussy cut pieces using the template
and machine pieced the star unit on the
right.  I then trimmed 1/4" from all sides.
I cut the star on the left to the same size.

I then trimmed an additional 1/4" from
the fussy cut star.

I hand stitched the fussy cut star to
the larger star using a blanket stitch.
Then I stitched this unit to the 8 1/2"
block.

I added an additional circle to the
center of the star and stitched that
in place using the blanket stitch.

See you next Sunday!

  1. Wow - Your use of fabric, especially with the piece in the center elevates this simple star to something spectacular!

  2. This is simply stunning. I am so impressed that you can visualize this sort of creation and then make it happen. I love the way you layered the star to make it so dynamic. Beautiful block.
