Civil War Remembered ~ Block 50

Grapes of Wrath

We are quilting along with Barbara
Brackman's 2011 Civil War Quilt.


Fabric Requirements:

Fabric A: White Print
1 - 2 1/2" square
2 - 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles
2 - 3 1/4" squares - Mark
a diagonal line on back.
1 - 5 1/4" square - Mark
a diagonal line on back.

Fabric B: Green
1 - 5 1/4" square
1 3 1/4" square

Fabric C: Purple Floral
3 - 3 1/4" squares

Fabric D: Deep Purple
2 - 3 1/4" squares - Mark
a diagonal line on back.


Make Half Square Triangles:

Large Half Square Triangle:

Place Fabric A and Fabric B 5 1/4"
squares with right sides together
and sew 1/4" away from each side
of drawn line.  Cut on drawn line and
press seam to the Fabric B.
Square to 4 1/2".

Small Half Square Triangles:

Pair 3 1/4" squares with right sides
together in the following combinations:

2 - A/C     1 - D/C     1 - D/B

Sew 1/4" away from each side of drawn
line.  Cut on drawn line and press seams:
A/C - 2 to the Fabric A and 2 to
the Fabric B
D/C - press to Fabric C
D/B - press to Fabric B

Square to 2 1/2".


Make Upper Left Quarter:

Layout units as shown, taking care
to use A/C Half Square Triangles that
have the seams pressed to the Fabric C.
Sew together in 2 rows and press seam
in row 1 to the left and seam in row 2 to
the right.


Sew rows together and press
seam up.  Square to 4 1/2".


Make Upper Right Quarter:

Layout units as shown and sew
left column together using the
A/C unit with seam pressed to
the Fabric A.  Press seam to the
bottom.  Then sew the 2 columns
together.  Square to 4 1/2".


Make Lower Left Quarter:

Layout units as shown, taking care to
use A/C unit with seam pressed to the
Fabric A.  Sew upper row together and
press seam to the left.  Sew 2 rows
together and press seam to the bottom.
Square to 4 1/2".


Sew 2 rows together and press
 seam to the bottom.  Square to 4 1/2".


Layout quarters as shown and
sew together in 2 rows.  Press
seam in row 1 to the left and seam
in row 2 to the right.

Note: You will have an extra large and
small half square triangle to use in
another project.


Sew rows together and press
final seam open to reduce bulk.
Square to 8 1/2".

    inspite of the triangles...
    This weeks block is an easy one, I did it!!!
