Turkish Tulips

And I Thought They Were From Holland...

I have always heard of Dutch tulips,
so I was surpised to find out the Dutch
got the tulip from Turkey.  Turkey was
the first to begin commercial cultivation
during the Ottoman Empire.

Tulip Mania took place from 1634 to 1637
and tulips were so expensive they were
treated as a form of currency.

Tulips are considered a symbol
of abundance & indulgence.

The time when the Ottoman Empire was
wealthiest is often referred to as the Tulip Era.
