Ta Prohm

Or How Did I End Up On the Set of Tomb Raider?

Ta Prohm is a temple in the Angkor

complex near Siem Reap, Cambodia.

It was built in the 12th century and

was home to 12,500 people with

80,000 people in surrounding villages

to provide support to the temple.

After the fall of the Khmer Empire in

the 15th century, it was abandoned

for centuries.

When restoration of the temples began in

 the early 20th century it was decided to

leave Ta Prohm largely as it had been found.

I bought some statues from this

lovely young man.  He was all business.

In recent times Ta Prohm may best be

known as a location for the filming of

Laura Croft Tomb Raider.  Some have

even taken to calling the site the Angelina

Temple for the film's star Angelina Jolie.

As we came into an open area of the

temple we met some friends that we

met at Angkor Wat.  When you are

halfway around the world from home

it is so fun to bump into some familiar

faces, they are all so sweet.

And speaking of sweetness, this is a  face

that I will carry in my heart for the rest  of

my life.  This little girl was all alone in a

very lonely area of the temple trying to sell

the things she had in her little pink colander.

She had a few woven bracelets, some beaded

bracelets and a few bite size candy bars that

had completely melted in the heat.  I

bought a few of her beaded bracelets and

will think of her every time I wear them...
