Turkish Delight

It All Started With A Pepper Grinder...

We were walking on a street just outside
the Grand Bazaar and I told Mr. Wonderful
we should buy a pepper grinder since we are
both crazy about pepper and it would be a
nice souvenir of our trip.

So, we did.  I then said we should go a
few shops down and buy some peppercorns
and some of the spicy red pepper I've been
using in the local restaurants.

Then, we stepped into the shop and
oh no... there it was ~ Turkish Delight.
Turkish Delight is a confection that is
made of some sort of flavored gelatin
and studded with nuts.  My addiction,
appreciation of it began decades ago
when my brother brought some home
from a trip to Turkey.  My sister & I
would meet each other in the middle of
the night, we both would wake up dreaming
of it.  What did they put in this stuff
to make it so appealing?
We were not the only ones of course, if anyone
is a fan of the Chronicles of Narnia, they know
Edmund Pevensie is also crazy for it in The
Lion, The With & the Wardrobe.

So, if you are ever in Istanbul, stop
by bosnak BOECKCI just outside the
Grand Bazaar and try the pomegranite
with pistachio!. Yum!
