Elle's Kitchen: How to Slice a Mango

Yesterday Mr. Wonderful woke me
up saying, "I tried to cut the mango
for breakfast and I couldn't get the
knife through it."  I popped an eye
open and realized in a 29 year
relationship I have evidently been
the ONLY mango slicer in this house.
That had to change...

Hold the mango in its side and
imagine a 1" to 1 1/2" strip running
through the center, that is the pit.
Make a cut on the right hand side
as shown and repeat on the left.

You will have 2 pieces that
look like this.

Score the flesh with a knife
in a 1/2" grid pattern, taking
care to not cut through the skin.

Holding it in both hands, place
your index fingers in the center
of the skin side and pop it, it now
looks like a bloom of mango.

This makes a nice presentation.

Or you can cut the cubes off the
skin and serve it this way.

Be sure to not waste the edible
part around the pit, that is the
treat for the slicer.
