Rocky Mountain Chain

I have decided to stop participating
in the Just Takes 2 Mystery Quilt because
I really, really, really didn't like the paper
piecing.  But, I did like the latest block that
was offered and decided to make it as a 15"
block instead of a 12" and I used 5 fabrics
instead of 2 fabrics.  I love it!

Fabric Requirements:

Fabric A: Red
9 - 3 1/2" squares

Fabric B: Beige Print
4 - 4 1/4" squares - Mark a
diagonal line on back.
4 - 3 1/2" x 2" rectangles
8 - 2" squares - Mark a
diagonal line on back.

Fabric C: Green
4 - 4 1/4" squares

Fabric D: Pink
4 - 3 1/2" squares

Fabric E: White & red print
8 - 2" squares - Mark
a diagonal line on back.
4 - 3 1/2" x 2" rectangles

Make Half Square Triangles:

Pair Fabric B and Fabric C squares
with right sides together and sew 1/4"
away from each side of drawn line.
Cut on drawn line and press seam to
the darker fabric.  Square to 3 1/2".

Make Corner Units:

Layout units as shown and sew
together in 2 rows.  Press seam
in row 1 to the left and seam in
row 2 to the right. Sew rows
together and press final seam
open to reduce bulk.  Square to
6 1/2".  Make 4.

Make Diamond in a Square Units:

Place Fabric B and Fabric E 2" squares
on opposite corners of a Fabric A 3 1/2"
square.  Sew a thread width away from
drawn line on outer side of drawn line.
Press to corner and trim back 2 layers
of  fabric.  Repeat above proces to
remaining 2 corners. Square to 3 1/2".
Make 4.

Make Inner Strip Units:

Place Fabric B and Fabric E
3 1/2" x 2" rectangles as shown
and sew on long edge. Square to
3 1/2" x 6 1/2".  Make 4.

Assemble Block:

Layout units as shown and sew together
in 3 rows.  Press seams in rows 1 & 3 to
the outside and seams in row 2 to the inside.

Sew rows together and press final
seams open to reduce bulk.
Square to 15 1/2".

You can use this block in this
design that I named, Be Mine.
Check back on Chock-A-Block
Wednesday to see how to make
 the other block.

Why not make this for someone you love?
