Redbud 2012 Block of the Month ~ February

Shoofly Block

This is the February Block of
the Month for the Redbud Quilt
Guild.  Each month I will show how
I made my block.  This month's block
was presented by Peg P.

This makes a 12 1/2" unfinished block.

Make Half Square Triangles:

Fabric A:  Yellow
1 - 4 1/2" square

Fabric B: Green
4 - 4 1/2" squares
2 - 5 1/4" squares

Fabric C:  Cream
2 - 5 1/4" squares - Mark
a diagonal line on back.

Make Half Square Triangles:

Pair Fabric B and Fabric C 5 1/4"
squares right sides together and
sew 1/4" away from each side of
drawn line.  Cut on drawn line and
press seam to the darker fabric.
Square to 4 1/2".

Layout as shown as sew together
in 3 rows.  Press seams in rows
1 & 3 to the inside and seams in
row 2 to the outside.

Sew rows together and press final
seams open to reduce bulk.
Square to 12 1/2".

By using the same units you can make
an alternate block by rotating the half
square triangles in the corners.

If you were to use these 2 blocks
to make a quilt they end up making
interesting larger patterns.
