Civil War Remembered ~ Block 23

Illinois Roads

We are quilting along with
Barbara Brackman's
Civil War Quilt 2011

Fabric Requirements:

Fabric A: Dark
4 - 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles

Fabric B: Light
4 - 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles

Layout as shown and sew
along long edge.

Square to 4 1/2".
Make 4.

Layout as shown and sew
together in 2 rows.  Press
seam in row 1 to the left
and seam in row 2 to the right.

Sew rows together and
press seam open to reduce
bulk.  Square to 8 1/2".

I pieced this one by hand. ( ! )
It has been a long time since I've
done that.  I'm far from my sewing
machine right now and tonight
I start my journey around the
world.  I will try to keep up with
my weekly blocks.  I packed
what I am calling my
"Brackman Bag."

Check out everyone's work
at Dustin's Flickr site:

Here is one where I alternated
the colors of the dark fabric
but kept the light fabric the same.
Very graphic.

In this one I used different
fabrics of the same color
for the dark fabric but used
all the same for the light  fabric.

Check back for Tales from the World.

Now off to Reykjavik...
